  • In the 19th century the island of Tasmanian was a penal colony with around 75,000 convicts being sent there. 
  • Tasmania is the 26th world’s largest island!
  • Hence the name, the Tasmanian devil is only found on the island. 
  • The whole island wasn’t fully explored till the late 118th century. Before that it was not believed to be an island.
